'Complacent' council misses own target for hospital delays

Labour councillor Jenni Churchill argues that both the Conservative government and the local Conservative council are failing both social care and the NHS.

"The Tory government failed to offer even a penny extra of funding for the NHS or social care in the Autumn statement. They refuse even now to acknowledge that we have reached a crisis situation."

"The local tories have made things worse. They have been playing politics with the numbers, offering year after year of tax freezes whilst services plummet. £15.5 million has been taken out of the adult services budget since 2010 in Richmond."

"Inadequate social care puts pressure on A&E services and on GPs. People end up trapped in hospital, forced to stay longer than necessary. By quarter 2 of last year, Richmond Council had already missed its own target for reducing the number of days people are delayed in hospital by 1,000 days. We must challenge the administration's complacency before things get even worse."
