Emily Thornberry is the Labour MP for Islington South and Finsbury and Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.  After working as a barrister for 20 years, Emily was first elected to parliament in 2005, and was re-elected in 2010 and 2015 – increasing her majority each time.

Emily has held a number of front bench roles, shadowing the Departments of Health, Energy & Climate Change and Work & Pensions as a Shadow Minister.  Between 2011 and 2014 Emily served in the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Attorney General. In January 2016 Emily returned to Labour’s top team as Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, a position she held until June 2016.  From June – October 2016 Emily shadowed both the Foreign Office and the newly-created Department for Exiting the European Union, before Sir Keir Starmer MP took up the latter brief on a permanent basis
