Thank you to everybody in Heathfield who put their trust in us on the 22nd May and voted Labour.
We may not have won, but we campaigned hard and made more contact with people in the ward -having more conversations on the doorstep about real issues - than ever before. We’re proud of a campaign that gave Labour a 22% share of the vote - the highest in the borough and our best result since 1974. This result demonstrates that more and more people are choosing to put their trust in Labour once again.
We are turning the tide on the traditional, empty Lib Dem claim that ‘Labour can’t win here’. The tactical vote relied on by so many Lib Dem councillors for decades is under threat as natural Labour voters see how the Lib Dems have propped up and apologised for a Tory government. Those supporters are on their way back home to Labour.
Labour will continue to offer a progressive alternative in Heathfield and across the Twickenham constituency in the form of Nick Grant, Labour’s parliamentary candidate, and we will fight even harder in the next set of local elections to elect Labour councillors to Richmond Council so that residents have a genuine, progressive voice on the Council.
