Nick Grant: my vision for education

I know that many of you share my belief that a high quality education, available to all, is the foundation of a fair society.

I personally benefited from a good comprehensive education (as did my children) and a grant funded university place.

The coalition government is taking us backwards to a time of stark unfairness in education.

Did you know that only 16% of children receiving free school meals go on to university, whereas the figure for those going to independent schools is 96%?

Or that nearly 50% of pupils on free school meals achieve nothing above a grade D?

The Liberal Democrats have supported Michael Gove in his divisive mission.

Remember the pledge that Vince Cable made not to increase tuition fees? That seems a long time ago now.

Only the Labour Party can be trusted to pursue a truly egalitarian education policy: recognising the brilliant job that teachers do and investing in a fair education for our young people.
