Richmond and Twickenham Times journalists on strike over pay

A 12-day strike began today over pay and redundancies. Please show your support for our local journalists.

On the 18th June a number of local journalists working for Newsquest titles in South London have begun a 12-day strike over low pay and redundancies. This includes people who work on our local newspaper, the Richmond & Twickenham Times.

Local news plays an important role in promoting local democracy, transparency and accountability. We need quality journalism if this is to happen, undertaken by skilled and hard working journalists who deserve to be fairly paid for the work they do.

Twickenham Labour Party fully supports the cause of the journalists involved. You can show your support by getting in touch with the parties involved details available from the NUJ here: https://www.nuj.org.uk/news/twelve-day-london-newsquest-strike-begins/

We will be holding a collection in support of those journalists who are striking. We will be taking contributions at our Hampton Wick street stall on Saturday 20th June, we'll be on the corner of Bushy Park Road and Kingston Road. Or please get in touch if you would like to contribute but can't make it to the stall.

Members may also want to add their name to a letter we will be sending to Newquest in support of the strike and requesting the management team to review their offer to affected staff.
