The West Middlesex NHS Trust merged with Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust over two years ago. The Chelsea and Westminster site has had a large private patient facility for many years. It has now been announced that private facilities are to be introduced at the West Middlesex Site. The Chelsea and Westminster website states that, “Patients can access private care services at West Middlesex Hospital and benefit from all the additional services this leading NHS Foundation Trust and teaching hospital has to offer. The Trust is working to extend the range of available treatments throughout 2019. All private service income will be reinvested to support NHS services for all patients at the hospital. Private Care Options – the following services are now available: outpatient appointments with a Consultant; scans and diagnostic tests; day case surgery; maternity packages. Ways to Pay for Private Care; self pay; use your health insurance (see the terms and conditions of your policy and always check with your insurer first).’

Twickenham CLP last night, committed itself to opposing this development, which could affect the quality of the provision of health care for all and create a two-tier health system.
