Affordable housing has long been an issue in the London Borough of Richmond. Currently (Feb 2026) there are 2527 households on the waiting list, with a staggering 761 in temporary accommodation. The council’s growth plan is for 500 affordable homes (yes, 500) over the next 5 years. So at current rates, 25 years to clear the waiting list? There’s a promise for another 5000 homes from 2031-2036.
Lib Dems are claiming 500 affordable homes to be completed in the next 2 years.
Pam Marum, our housing champion, asks the very reasonable question: which is it? 500 new affordable homes over the next 2 or 5 years?
